Internet har nu över 1 miljard surfare – wow

Enligt en pressrelease från ComScore så har internet i december 2008 passerat 1 miljard användare. Jag har helt klart valt rätt yrke, det kommer att finnas mycket att göra framöver.

Intressant är att redan nu är den största gruppen surfare från Kina, tänk vilken dominans Kina kommer få när medelklassen växer till sig, det kommer säkert ske inom tio år, då är vi i Europa och Usa bara några få surfare i marginalen.

Det här betyder att man har lite roligare marknad att jobba med framöver, framgången med Skype, Facebook, Myspace osv är visserligen imponerande i västs mått mätt med 10-tals miljoner medlemmar, men tänk vilka enorma besöksmängder en sajt kan få med en stor medelsklass i Kina och Indien – det känns verkligen som något att bita i.

Hur vi startade framgången Bröllopstorget & Familjeliv

Bröllopstorget
Bröllopstorget och Familjeliv var inte de första bolagen vi startade, jag började i början av 90-talet med några andra bolag också, men det är en annan sak. Just de här sajterna är frukter från behov som jag och min fru såg när vi själva kom i de faserna i livet. Det är nämligen så att vi gifte oss 1999 och under bröllopsplaneringen upptäckte vi att det fattades en hel del på det svenska nätet inom ämnet på den tiden. Bröllopsguiden fanns då, men dom hade inte riktigt gjort det så som man borde tyckte vi och fick använda amerikanska sajter i planeringen.

I alla fall ställde vi in oss på att utnyttja bröllopsplaneringen som skedde största delen av 1999 till att samla ihop alla erfarenheter och göra en sajt av det som senare kom att heta Bröllopstorget och som öppnades 2000. På den tiden ville vi göra en innehållssajt, så det var väldigt stort fokus på att skapa faktaartiklar till sajten (vi skapade själva uppåt 300 artiklar av det som var väsentligt). Artiklarna var väldigt faktaorienterade och speglade inte alls våra åsikter i sammanhanget, vilket var ganska nytt då alla nya sajter på den tiden som hade innehåll var startade av tidningar/journalister som ville berätta deras bild eller story om saker och ting. Men i.o.m. att sökmotorerna (AltaVista på den tiden) blev populära så fungerade våra artiklar enormt bra, eftersom det var sådant som man sökte efter i sökmotorerna – vi fick massvis av trafik på kort tid. Förutom min tekniska kunskap använde jag mina kunskaper inom SEO som blev väldigt duktig på under slutet av 90-talet.

Direkt efter att vi släppt Bröllopstorget ringde en massa om tips och det kom mycket mail. Vi insåg att alla som mailade oss hade massvis av tips och idéer som vi själva inte hade tid att lägga upp och skriva om så vi öppnade ett forum. Forumet programmerade vi själva eftersom de flesta forum på den tiden inte var så användarvänliga. Vi ville göra forumet så enkelt som möjligt eftersom vi hade väldigt mycket ”första gången” (som använde internet) personer på våra sajt. Forumet blev enormt populärt på väldigt kort tid (inom ett par månader var det livliga diskussioner.

Åren gick och vi gjorde an massa saker hela tiden, styrkan med Bröllopstorget var vår tekniska fördel gentemot en hel del konkurrenter som fanns redan innan vi startade. Vi var de första som hade speciella grafiska verktyg såsom bordsplacering, planeringskalender, budget osv som var väldigt användbara, fortfarande även idag. Innan ett år hade gått hade vi vuxit oss större än den största konkurrenten då Bröllopsguiden och trafiken bara växte mer och mer.

Familjeliv
2001 fick jag och min fru barn och vi insåg att denna nisch var ytterligare ett sådant stort område som fattades på nätet för gravida och småbarnsföräldrar. Då fanns visserligen Föräldranätet (nuvarande Allt för föräldrar) som var jättestora och hade över 100 000 medlemmar med Sveriges aktivaste forum på den tiden. Men jag tog fram mina marknadskunskaper och insåg att marknaden i Sverige borde vara 500 000 medlemmar och insåg då att de måste gjort något fel som bara klarat av att fånga en fjärdedel. Vi blev väldigt inspirerade att starta en konkurrerande sajt till dom och vi visste från den sociala utvecklingen (Lunarstorm på den tiden) att det var det rätta spåret så vi började 2002 och snickra på en ny social webbplats som inte alls skulle bli lik den innehållssajt som Bröllopstorget var.

2003 var vi färdiga, i juni 2003 lanserade vi Familjeliv. Forumet som fungerade väldigt bra på Bröllopstorget kopierade vi rätt över och la till alla sociala nätverksfunktioner och användarna fick profiler med gästböcker och allt därtill. Juni 2003 öppnade vi och det blev en ”instant hit”, samma dag som vi öppnade har jag för mig att vi fick över 1000 medlemmar och forumet fick livliga diskussioner från dag 1. Det blev en enorm utveckling, allt hände som en storm, det bara vällde in nya medlemmar och de som kom till sajten fick kärlek för den direkt som spred den som tips till alla sina vänner. Det tog bara 12 månader sedan var vi större än dåvarande Föräldranätet, som någon gång under början av 2000 gick i konkurs och senare köptes upp och drevs till den sajt som det är idag under namnet Allt för föräldrar. Egentligen hade vi nog ingen påverkan på deras konkurs, allt det där hände innan vi var igång, men deras affärsmodell var tydligen inte bra för det blev inget större, dock växte vi konstant både ekonomiskt och marknadsmässigt och gör det än idag.

Idag är Familjeliv faktiskt en av de få sociala nätverksplatserna som växer i Sverige, alla andra har fått stryk av Facebook, Myspace, Hi5 osv. och en del beror på att det är en nisch och tack vare de funktioner och enkelhet i sajten som vi la grunden för från början.

Notera att vi gjorde aldrig reklam om våra sajter någonstans, inte en krona har vi lagt ner. Jag registrerade bara sajterna sedvanligt i de vanligaste förekommande gratiskatalogerna för att öka SEO värde och fixade en väldigt bra SEO vänlig sajt. Vi la visserligen upp en liten blygsam länk om Familjeliv på framsidan av Bröllopstorget i början men annars har tillväxten varit 100% word of mouth.

Imponerande och inspirerande fakta om Familjeliv idag:
- Uppåt 50 000 nya inlägg skrivs varje dag (I särklass största forumet i Sverige, ja faktiskt det är mer aktivitet än på Flashback )
- Får över 30 000 nya unika besökare från Googles sökmotor varje dag
- En större del av medlemmarna klickar fram mer än 100 sidor i veckan

Charlotte och jag sålde Bröllopstorget och Familjeliv under 2006, jag drev verksamheten som VD i en överlämningsfas till slutet av 2007.

Framgångsfaktorerna är många, vi gjorde massor av saker och de flesta gjorde vi rätt, men det har alltid handlat om detaljerna, vi såg till att varje klick på sajterna inte skulle ta längre än en halv sekund att leverera till besökarna och det var nog också en del av framgången – vi försökte hålla sajten trots kraftig utveckling väldigt responsiv.

Men framförallt var det vårt egenutvecklade forum som var den riktiga framgångsfaktorn i kombination med vår kunskap om SEO som gjorde att vi kunde penetrera marknaden under så kort tid trots superhög konkurrens med etablerade sajtägare. Sedan gjorde vi allt precis i rätt tid, Bröllop fick en markant ökad marknad 2000, och sedan var den en babyboom i början av 2000 samtidigt som många kvinnor började använda internet på allvar. Både Bröllopstorget och Familjeliv har över 90% kvinnor på sajterna.

59% av de ledande varukedjorna har en sida på Facebook

Såg just en undersökning gjord av ett företag i USA att 59% av de ledande varukedjorna är nu representerade med en ”Fan club” sida på Facebook. En liknande undersökning gjordes i juni 2008 och då var det bara 30% av varukedjorna som fanns där.
