Hur man överlever en social revolt

Läste ett intressant inlägg om hur man borde hantera kommunikationen mot sina medlemmar på hemsidan i ett socialt nätverk där medlemmar gaddar ihop sig.

Skribenten tar upp ett bra exempel på hur man ska göra och ger 5 råd (beskriver kortfattat här):

Kommunicera hela tiden med medlemmarna även om du inte har något viktigt att säga
Var konkret, försök aldrig dölja eller undvika problem
Förtydliga att du alltid gör allt du kan för att lyssna på alla
Erkänn dina misstag
Lova att lära av dina misstag och visa i konkret handling

Dessa råd är enkla, självklara och konkreta – jag vet av erfarenhet att det är en mycket bra sammanfattning, följer man dessa råd som entreprenör kan man lyckas med en hel del.

Konflikthantering i ett socialt nätverk – ledningens perspektiv

Det är en regel mer än ett undantag att ledningen i de flesta stora sociala nätverken hanterar konflikter, dispyter och upprop från medlemmarna väldigt dåligt. Jag kan själv bekräfta att jag i vissa fall skötte konflikter och annat dåligt under tiden jag byggde upp Bröllopstorget och Familjeliv – kanske i brist på insikt. Men jag är övertygad om att vi lärde oss mycket och gjorde det mesta rätt för annars skulle väl inte de sajterna vara så stora idag.

Jag har lärt mig en hel del, framförallt att kulturen och mognaden hos medlemmar förbättras hela tiden, idag är det allmänt accepterat att det finns andra medlemmar som är där för att bara provocera och göra livet surt för de andra kärnmedlemmarna. Men för sådär 5 år sedan startades det upprop och upplopp och medlemmarna gjorde allt för att påverka ledningen på det sätt de trodde var bäst.

Här är några historiska exempel:

Miljonbruden på Bröllopstorget runt 2003
En blivande brud som medlem deklarerade att hon la ner mer än 1 miljon kronor på sitt bröllop och var stolt över det. Det blev en total härdsmälta på sajten, eftersom det visade sig vara på riktigt. Jag tror varenda medlem som fanns på Bröllopstorget hade åsikter om denna brud som bodde i New York men gifte sig i Sverige – vi var tvugna att ta bort alla officiella spår av detta på sajten. Rätt eller fel – ja idag var det fel att ta bort det, men då var beslutet rätt pga vi hade ingen effektiv upprätthållning som var redo dygnet runt och plocka bort alla hot och hat-inlägg i den takt de kom in.

För att förstå det sociala engagemanget i Familjeliv kan jag ta ett exempel på en medlem som postade ett inlägg om en katt som inte kom ner från ett träd i Stockholm och frågade medlemmarna om hjälp. Det bara smällde till i forumet på eftermiddagen en vanlig vardag och engagemanget var 400%, tusentals djurvänliga medlemmar strömmade in i tråden och hade tips. Tillslut började folk gå till platsen och inom någon timme fanns det en stor skara medlemmar på platsen som tog foton och la upp på Familjeliv för andra och följa. Många ringde till brandkåren för att få hjälp, en del till polisen men roligast var ju att Expressen fick nys om händelsen och la upp en artikel på sin hemsida samma dag och sedan var mediabruset igång. Tråden slutade med uppåt 50 000 inlägg och katten blev räddad av en som kände någon med skylift som tog dit den och senare ville ha betalt för lånet som också blev en stor diskussion om att samla in pengar och tråden blev stoppad av moderatorerna. Rätt eller fel – jag tyckte det var fel att stoppa diskussionen, vi kunde ha gjort mer, ridit på vågen och sponsrat detta från ledningen som skulle blivit väldigt bra PR för Familjeliv.

Gravid med downs syndrom
En tjej på Familjeliv postar en fråga om åsikter kring vad de skulle göra om man vid ultraljudet fick reda på om fostret hade downs syndrom. Bara någon timme efter frågan lades ut skrev en tjej om att hon skulle göra abort för att hon tyckte barn med downs syndrom var fula. Det bara smällde till, det här var under mellandagarna 2006 tror jag och alla telefoner ringde både mina privata och jobbnummer, email strömmade in och folk var rasande – helt klart ursinniga på denna åsikt. Jag hade redan åkt in till jobbet innan och var där när allt detta hände som tur var. Tillslut ringer en dam från polisen till min mobil och försöker påverka oss att ta bort inlägget för dom blir helt ner-ringda och kan inte göra något åt detta då det inte var något brott. Ärendet eskalerades så mycket bara för att en moderator hade nekat alla anmälningar som kom in till Familjeliv vilket gjorde alla andra medlemmar ännu mer arga. Familjeliv har alltså en massa föräldrar med barn som har downs syndrom och ni kan ju tänka er hur dom kände. Moderatorns agerande överklagades och tråden togs sedan bort (tog väl 3 timmar från att frågan var postad och under den tiden hade det kommit in uppåt 10 000 inlägg i ämnet). Rätt eller fel – detta var ett svårt fall men det var rätt att plocka bort tråden då.

Pojken som hade en obotlig och dödlig hudsjukdom
En mamma till en pojke gick ut i Aftonbladet om att hon hade en liten pojke som hade en obotlig hudsjukdom som innebar att pojken skulle dö inom några månader. Aftonbladet gjorde det till en extranyhet i samma kraftfulla sätt som man gjorde i 11:e september, problemet var bara att under huvudrubriken på Aftonbladets hemsida var det en direktlänk rakt in i mammans blogg på Familjeliv och vi som tur nog precis hade uppgraderat våra servrar fick 400 000 unika besökare på några timmar, det var enorm trafik. Det hela ledde till fler nyheter i andra tidningar och sådär fortsatte det i en stor mediahype. Under en vecka lamslogs vårt lilla företag, det bara drällde in mail, telefonerna ringde konstat till alla på företaget och det ringde folk från olika länder. Det var människor som skulle erbjuda healing och andra speciella grejer som skulle göra att pojken överlevde. Det slutade efter några veckor med att folk startade insamlingstrådar för pengar från olika håll för att hjälpa denna pojke och folk skänkte massvis hit och dit. Det blev så hysteriskt då en del la upp sina egna kontonummer och det verkade inte finnas någon kontroll i insamlingarna. Vi stängde då helt enkelt ner trådarna eftersom vi också fick så mycket klagomål på andra lycksökare som försökte tjäna pengar på detta med falska insamlingar osv. Rätt eller fel – det blev för kommersiellt och det verkade inte finnas de normala logiska spärrarna för att skänka pengar så jag tyckte vi gjorde rätt att stänga dessa trådar.

Ändlösa diskussioner som aldrig kommer till konsensus
På Bröllopstorget är bl.a. ämnet ”gå med pappa till altaret” som inte är svensk tradition ett sådant ändlöst ämne, men även ”barn på bröllop. På Familjeliv ter det sig lite annorlunda där handlar det om ”den bästa metoden att få barnet att sova” eller ”ersättningsmjölk”. Dessa diskussioner är jättebra för communityn ur ett ledningsperspektiv därför det är sådant som engagerar medlemmar och ska naturligtvis lyftas fram.

Socialt nätverkande är idag moget
Idag är det så vanligt med sociala nätverk och hur man använder dom på ett sunt sätt och därför ställs inte ledningen för samma press som under tidigare år när internettrollen kunde lura i princip vilken vanlig medlem som helst och bli upprörda. Idag är inte internettrollande så utbrett eftersom många vana internetsurfare genomskådar psykopaterna ganska snabbt och uppmärksammar andra medlemmar på det. Därför är min inställning numera att i stor utsträckning tillåta provocerande material så mycket som möjligt eftersom de flesta själva kan avgöra om de vill bli påverkade eller inte och därför har det istället en positiv PR effekt på communityn.

Internet har nu över 1 miljard surfare – wow

Enligt en pressrelease från ComScore så har internet i december 2008 passerat 1 miljard användare. Jag har helt klart valt rätt yrke, det kommer att finnas mycket att göra framöver.
Intressant är att redan nu är den största gruppen surfare från Kina, tänk vilken dominans Kina kommer få när medelklassen växer till sig, det kommer säkert [...]

Vill här dela med mig om ett litet tips för de som har problem att lägga en PNG fil ovanför en definerad bakgrundsfärg i CSS och inte får färgerna att stämma i olika webbläsare. När man sparar webbfiler i Photoshop ska man se till att man jobbar i sRGB som är en standard på skärmar. [...]

59% av de ledande varukedjorna har en sida på Facebook

Såg just en undersökning gjord av ett företag i USA att 59% av de ledande varukedjorna är nu representerade med en ”Fan club” sida på Facebook. En liknande undersökning gjordes i juni 2008 och då var det bara 30% av varukedjorna som fanns där.

Varför bry sig om skärmupplösning, webbläsare och OS

Det är ofta man behöver lite källor om vilka marknadsandelar vissa tekniska begränsningar man har att förhålla sig till. Egentligen är det bara tre viktiga saker att främst anpassa en webbsajt för:

Skärmupplösning – vanligast idag är 1024×768
Webbläsare – vanligast är idag IE6
OS – vanligaste är idag Windows XP

Transparenta PNG bilder och IE 6 – Problem och lösningar

Återigen så behöver jag lösa problemet med att IE6< inte stödjer transparenta PNG filer, medans det fungerar perfekt i alla andra webbläsare. Det är fixat i IE7 och deras IE8 beta som är ute nu, men problemet är fortfarande aktuellt då det är rätt många som fortfarande använder IE6.
Stödet finns inte heller i IE5.5, men [...]
